Kansas City selected as favorite in 2026 Men’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll

The Roos claimed the 2025 regular season title

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Defending Summit League regular season champion Kansas City was selected as the top team in the 2026 Summit League men’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll released Wednesday by league officials. The Roos earned five first-place votes and totaled 25 points overall in the poll, which was voted on by the League’s six head coaches. Delaware, who enjoyed a strong inaugural season in the Summit League, was picked second with 21 points and one first-place vote.

Kansas City will look to build off a historic 2025 campaign that saw the Roos capture their first Summit League regular season title since 2010 and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. KC finished the season with a 12-4-5 overall record and a 4-1-1 mark in League play, earning 13 points during the regular season. The Roos hosted their first NCAA Tournament match in program history and secured a 1-0 victory over Lindenwood in the opening round.

Delaware earned the second spot in the preseason rankings following a strong debut season in the League. The Blue Hens posted a 12-2-3 overall record in 2025 and finished second in the regular season standings with 11 points in League play (3-1-2). Delaware advanced to the Summit League Tournament semifinals before falling to Kansas City.

UMass rounded out the top three with 16 points after the Minutemen finished their first season as a Summit League affiliate member. Oral Roberts (10), Omaha (9) and St. Thomas (9) completed the 2026 Summit League men’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll. The Golden Eagles, Mavericks, and Tommies each finished the 2025 regular season with five League points.
