#SummitWSOC Weekly Notes: Week 2 Edition

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Summit League women’s soccer was up and running for the first week of the season. All eight programs competed, with Oral Roberts, South Dakota State and South Dakota remaining unbeaten to start things off.

In the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer West Region rankings, Oral Roberts earned a No. 3 spot while South Dakota came in at No. 7. This is the Coyotes’ highest regional recognition in program history during the Division I era.

The preseason favorite Golden Eagles (2-0) earned a 4-1 victory over Central Arkansas and a 3-0 shutout win against Rogers State. ORU will host UC Riverside Wednesday night and head to Wichita Sunday to take on Friends.

South Dakota State had a historic opening week of the regular season, earning two shutout victories by defeating Manitoba, 6-0, and MSU Moorhead, 11-0. The 11 goals scored against MSU Moorhead set a program record. The Jackrabbits also broke program records in points scored in a game (36), assists in a match (14) and did not allow a single shot for the second time in program history. SDSU hosts Washington State Thursday and heads to Kansas State on Sunday.

South Dakota opened the season with a 4-0 shutout victory over Northern Iowa and picked up a 1-1 draw against Big Ten opponent Nebraska. In the match against the Cornhuskers, the defense anchored by goalkeeper Cambell Fischer, held Nebraska scoreless the first 83 minutes. Fischer leads the League in saves with 11. USD heads to Green Bay on Thursday and will host Morningside on Sunday.

Kansas City, after dropping its first game on the road to Iowa State, hosts Rockhurst on Friday and UC Riverside on Sunday.

Omaha, who also fell to Iowa State to start the season at home, will be on the road this week to face Northern Iowa on Thursday and Green Bay on Sunday.

St. Thomas will compete in its second match of the season in a road game against Drake on Sunday.

North Dakota’s lone competition of the week will see them head east for a game against Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

North Dakota State will host Big Ten opponent Minnesota on Thursday before hosting Washington State on Sunday.

• In the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer West Region rankings this week, Oral Roberts earned a No. 3 spot while South Dakota came in at No. 7. This is USD’s highest regional recognition in program history during the Division I era.
• Oral Roberts and South Dakota State, the top-ranked teams in the Summit League Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll, both finished the first week of the season 2-0
• The preseason favorite Golden Eagles earned a 4-1 victory against Central Arkansas and a 3-0 shutout win over Rogers State. 2025 First Team All-League member Brianna Castleberry is one of six players with two goals on the year, which is good for second in the League. Teammate Addy Johnson also has two goals on the season.
• South Dakota State earned its first two shutout wins of the year, defeating Manitoba, 6-0, and MSU Moorhead, 11-0. 2025 Second Team All-League member Jenna Maloy leads the League with three goals. Fellow second teamers Mia Bosch and Ellie Gusman are two of three players leading the Summit League with three assists.
• The Jackrabbits set a program record with 11 goals scored against MSU Moorhead. South Dakota State also broke its records in points scored in a game (36), assists in a match (14) and did not allow a single shot for the second time in program history.
• After the 4-0 shutout victory over Northern Iowa and the 1-1 draw against Nebraska, South Dakota’s Cambell Fischer leads the League in saves (11) and saves per game (5.50). In the draw against Nebraska, Fischer held the Cornhuskers scoreless the first 83 minutes and collected eight total saves.
• Hosting Iowa State in the season opener, Omaha held a strong defensive showing, falling to the Cyclones 1-0. Despite allowing 12 total shots and nine corner kicks, the Mavericks held Iowa State to just four shots on goal and goalkeeper Cadence Fagan made three saves in her first appearance with Omaha.
• In the loss to Iowa State, Kansas City’s 2025 Summit League All-Tournament Team member Anika Patton picked up four saves for the Roos in their lone game of the week. Patton’s four saves per game are tied for fourth in the League.
• In the loss to Marquette on Sunday, North Dakota State goalkeeper and 2024 Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year Payton Mulberry moved into ninth place all-time in saves in program history. The fifth year has earned 102 saves in her career.
• North Dakota leads the League in saves with 17. In the loss to Minnesota, Jacinda Hevesy-Rodriguez earned nine saves in her first match with the Fighting Hawks. In the loss to Green Bay, Thale Ruether in her first match with UND totaled five saves.
• All programs will be back in action this week, starting with UC Riverside heading to Oral Roberts Wednesday night. The Highlanders will stay in the Summit League and face Kansas City on Sunday afternoon.
• Green Bay and Washington State will both take on two Summit League members as well, with the Cougars taking a trip to South Dakota State on Thursday and North Dakota State on Sunday. The Phoenix will host South Dakota on Thursday before hosting Omaha on Sunday.
• North Dakota State will also host Big Ten Conference opponent Minnesota on Thursday, North Dakota will travel east to square off against Eastern Michigan on Saturday and St. Thomas heads to Des Moines to play Drake on Sunday.
