#SUMMITVB Weekly Notebook: No. 7

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – There was some impressive competition around the league last week with all the more on deck for the upcoming schedule.
 
Omaha stands as the only team to remain undefeated in league play thus far and looks to extend its streak.
 
This week’s action begins Thursday at 7 p.m. CT with eight of our ten league members taking the court.

Around The League
  • Omaha is the only team remaining undefeated in league play after defeating Denver (3-1) and Oral Roberts (3-0). The Mavericks snapped the Pioneers’ nine-match win streak. Marriah Buss paced the effort for the Mavericks totaling 31 kills and averaging 4.42 per set while hitting .314 in two matches. She finished with a career-high 19 kills and added four digs against Denver.
  • Jaiden Centeno led the defensive effort for Omaha compiling 45 digs in two matches averaging 6.42 digs per set over the week. Highlighting Centeno’s efforts was a season-best 29 dig performance against Denver.
  • North Dakota State improved to 2-3 after securing victories over Western Illinois (3-2) and St. Thomas (3-0). Syra Tanchin guided the efforts. She connected on 33 kills and averaged 4.12 kills per set. Against the Leathernecks she posted a career-high 24 kills with a .308 hitting percentage.
  • For the Bison, Ali Hinze contributed 27 total digs and averaged 3.37 per set along with 32 kills and averaged 4 kills per set. Against Western Illinois, she logged her team-best eighth double-double of the season with a season-high 20 digs and 19 kills to go along with a season-best three blocks.
  • Oral Roberts went 2-1 on the week defeating South Dakota (3-1), South Dakota State (3-2) and falling to Omaha (3-0). Aixa Vigil paced the Golden Eagles in the two home wins totaling 28 kills, averaging 3.11 kills per set and hit at a .279 clip. She had a double-double in both matches including 16 kills in the four-set win over USD.
  • Sakira LaCour was dominant at the net for ORU totaling 11 blocks, averaging 1.22 per set. She had six blocks in the victory over the Coyotes. In the two wins, she added 20 kills and hit a .386 mark.
  • Western Illinois picked up its first two wins of league play during the week defeating North Dakota (3-1) and St. Thomas (3-0). Kennedy Davis paced the Leathernecks in the victories totaling 21 kills, averaging 3.0 kills per set and a .395 hitting percentage.
  • Karli Wenzel combined for 42 digs in the two wins, 21 apiece in each of the matches for the Leathernecks.
  • Kansas City split the competition defeating South Dakota State 3-0 inside the Swinney Center, but dropped a tough five-set match to South Dakota. Against the Jackrabbits, Melanie Brecka and Bree Thompson paced the Roos’ attack, tallying 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Brecka hit a .354 clip and recorded eight digs while Thompson compiled a .391 hitting percentage against the Jacks.
  • South Dakota split its road weekend competition falling 3-1 to Oral Roberts and notching a 3-2 victory at Kansas City. The five-set victory for the Coyotes was the fourth-straight meeting with the Roos that went to five sets.
  • Elizabeth Juhnke posted her eighth double-double in the meeting with 16 kills and 18 digs. Madison Harms chipped into the offensive effort against the Roos posting a career-high 16 kills and hit an impressive .625 on the match.
  • St. Thomas picked up its first league victory of the season defeating North Dakota in a five-set thriller. Selena Levendoski and Lauren Galvin led the effort finishing with 22 and 20 kills apiece, respectively. Galvin also notched 14 digs for a double-double. Levendoski had a .450 clip, two service aces and five total blocks in the match.
  • Defensively, Carrie Rutledge led the way with 23 digs while Grace Anetipa contributed 18 and Libby Mattila finished with 12.
  • Denver, South Dakota State and North Dakota all suffered from a winless weekend. Denver traveled to Omaha and suffered its first loss of the season to the Mavericks, 3-1. South Dakota State fell to Kansas City (3-0) and Oral Roberts (3-2) while North Dakota lost to St. Thomas (3-2) and Western Illinois (3-1).
