SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –NDSU's Nate Adams and Oral Roberts' Cristina Riu were honored as the Summit League's September TicketSmarter Peak Golfers of the Month, league officials announced Thursday. Adams and Riu both recorded a pair of top-10 finishes during the opening month of the collegiate golf season.
Adams and the Bison played in a trio of tournaments in September which saw the senior post a 71.3 scoring average and post five rounds of par or better, including four in the 60's.
The Maple Grove, Minn., native opened his campaign with a four-under 68 at the Iowa ANF Fall Classic. He would finish those 54 holes with a score of 214 (-2) to tie for fifth. He followed that effort up by tying for 16
th at the Wildcat Fall Invitational, shooting an even-par 216 that included an opening round 69 (-3).
Adams wrapped up the month, leading the Bison to a second-place team finish at the Zach Johnson Invitational where he was one of three NDSU golfers to post top-10 finishes. Adams, who tied for ninth, once again opened his third straight tournament with a round in the 60's, shooting a 69 (-2) en route to a 212 (-1) total.
Riu started her campaign by leading the Golden Eagles to a team title at the Payne Stewart Memorial Classic in Missouri. Her and teammate Avery Blake tied for seventh to lead the way for ORU. Riu closed out the tournament with a career-best 69 (-3) to shoot an even-par 216 total for the 54-hole event.
The Oviedo, Spain native then recorded her second top-10 finish at the Johnie Imes Invitational. She opened the event with back-to-back sub-par rounds of 71 (-1) and would finish with a 217 (+1) total to pace ORU.
