SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Our Summit League cross country teams will make an appearance at the 2024 NCAA Midwest Regional at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill., Friday.
From the Midwest Regional, a total of 31 teams nationally will qualify for the NCAA Championships at Wisconsin on Nov. 23. The top two teams at each of the nine regional meets will automatically qualify, leaving 13 at-large team bids.
Individually, 38 additional athletes per gender will qualify, with the top four runners at each regional not on a qualifying team being automatically selected.

Notables Ahead of Race Day
- The Jackrabbit women are currently sitting at No. 12 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest Regional rankings while the Bison women rank at No. 14.
- The South Dakota State men enter Friday’s meet checked in at No. 5 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional rankings. The North Dakota State men sit at No. 15.
- At the 2023 NCAA Midwest Regionals, SDSU’s Carson Noecker finished 15th overall in the 10K event crossing the finish line in 30:50.0. Noecker helped guide the Jackrabbits to the best finish among League teams at the meet, finishing fifth as a team overall.
- The South Dakota Coyote women were the highest-finishing team among the League members at last year’s NCAA Midwest Regional. The Coyotes finished eighth overall.
- North Dakota’s Eliana Malnourie owns the league’s best 6K time of 20:20.1. She finished runner-up at the Summit League Cross Country Championships after crossing the finish line of the 6K race in 20:58.3.
- The 2024 Summit League Women’s Cross Country Champion and Championship MVP Reagan Baesler of NDSU enters the NCAA regional meet with four of the top 10 6K times in the League this season. She won the Summit League Cross Country individual title with the second-best 6K time in Summit League Cross Country Championships history (20:58.29).
- This year’s Summit League Men’s Cross Country Champion and Championship MVP Oral Roberts’ Abraham Chelangam owns the League’s top 6K time (17:45.7) and 8K time (23:35.4) this season. He also holds three of the League’s top 10 8K times this season.
- Chelangam won the League’s individual title at the championships with meet record 8k time of 23:41.43.
- At the League championships, alongside Chelangam, Noecker also crossed the finish line under the meet record (23:53.4). Noecker took runner-up with an 8K time of 23:51.47. The duo were the only two athletes to break the 24-minute barrier during the men’s 8K race.
- The Summit League women will be matching up against two top-30 nationally-ranked opponents at the NCAA Midwest Regional: Oklahoma State (No. 19) and Minnesota (No. 23).
- The League’s men will also meet up with two top-30 nationally-ranked teams: Oklahoma State (No. 2) and Iowa State (No. 4).
