SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State senior Jack Johnson and Oral Roberts senior Cristina Riu garnered the latest TicketSmarter #SummitGF Male and Female Peak Golfer of the Week accolades, League officials announced Monday. Johnson earned the third award of his career, while Riu corralled her second.
Johnson earned medalist honors in a stroke event for the first time in his career, capturing the UC San Diego Invitational by three strokes. After opening with a 73 (+1), the Chaska, Minn., native posted a second-round 68 (-4), which moved him into a share of the lead.
Johnson then closed the 54-hole event with a 67 (-5) to pull away from Idaho’s Johannes Hounsgaard to earn the victory with a final score of 208 (-8). Johnson’s efforts, which included 13 birdies and an eagle, also led the Bison to their second straight team title of the spring season as NDSU bested the 17-team field by eight strokes, finishing with an 857 (-7) team score.
Riu was also victorious last week, earning medalist honors at the Ozarks National Invitational after shooting a 36-hole total of 140 (-4) to win the event by nine strokes.
The Oviedo, Spain native opened with a 69 (-3), then closed with another under-par round of 71 (-1) as she led a trio of Golden Eagles with top-five finishes. Riu and company won the 13-team field event by 26 strokes.
