SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver sophomore Logan Hale and the North Dakota State duo of senior Jake Skarperud and freshman Carter White garnered the Kwik Star #SummitGF Peak Golfer of the Week awards following a competitive week of play, League officials announced Thursday. Hale earned the women’s honor for the first time of her career, while Skarperud and White shared the men’s accolade. The weekly award is the second of Skarperud’s career, while White grabbed the first of his career.
Hale had a stellar three days of golf at the Badger Invitational to finish t-6
th place, firing an even par opening round before delivering back-to-back under par laps of 71 (-1) and 68 (-4) to finish with a 54 hole total of 211 (-5). The Erie, Colo., native was extremely effective on the par-4s as she ranked second amongst the field in par-4 scoring (3.83). Birdies were also plentiful for the DU sophomore as she ranked fourth amongst other competitors with 13 total.
Skarperud and White directed the Bison to their second team title of the season at the Bluejay Invitational in dominant fashion, winning the tournament by six strokes. First-year head coach Ekren Miller became the first Bison head coach to lead NDSU men’s golf to tournament victories in his first two events as head coach of the program. The Bison duo finished t-3
rd at six-under-par behind Creighton’s Grant Feldman (-9) and Northern Colorado’s Tate Cooper (-8).
Skarperud put together three under-par rounds with a 69 (-3), 71 (-1), and closing 70 (-2). The Fargo, N.D., native led NDSU with a team-high seven birdies in the opening round and five birdies in the closing round, totaling 15 for the tournament. Bison teammate, White, shared third place with the senior after laps of 70 (-2), 67 (-5), and 73 (+1). The t-3
rd finish marks a career-high placement for the Verndale, Minn., native. The freshman also delivered a career-low score of 67 during the second round.
