SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver sophomore Maren Farbu and South Dakota sophomore Jack Holtz secured the Kwik Star #SummitGF Peak Golfer of the Week awards following a competitive week of play, League officials announced Thursday. Farbu claimed the women’s accolade while Holtz grabbed the men’s honor. Both student-athletes earned the award for the first time in their respective careers.
Farbu turned in the best 54-hole performance of her collegiate career at the Red Sky Classic, finishing one under par and tied for 20th in a competitive field. The Lørenskog, Norway, native opened with consecutive even-par 72s before closing with a bogey-free 71 that included a single birdie. Farbu totaled seven birdies over the first two rounds.
Holtz guided the Yotes to their best team finish of the season with a runner-up showing at the Zach Johnson Invitational, while capturing the individual title to mark the first tournament victory of his collegiate career. The Alexandria, Minn., native opened with a season-low 68 (-3) before firing back-to-back 70s (-1) to capture the title. Holtz carded nine birdies in the tournament and recorded his lone eagle on hole 11 during his second round.
