Fayetteville, Ark. - North Dakota's Jadyn Keeler and South Dakota's Caelan Harland, Anna Willis, and Marleen Mülla punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday to headline the second day of competition amongst Summit League athletes.
Kansas City
Naomi Eyanagho finished 43
rd in the shot put with a toss of 46-5.25 (14.15m) in her first NCAA West Preliminary appearance.
North Dakota
North Dakota track and field saw its first ticket to the national meet punched off the performance of none other than Jadyn Keeler in Thursday NCAA West Preliminary competition that saw Fighting Hawks competing in the day's first and last events.
The marquee moment came in the late-night 10,000-meter run as a trio of Hawks took the stage. After besting her original No. 4 spot in the regional ranking to clock the third-best time in the field, Keeler crossed the finish line in a time of 32:11.14 to book her ticket to the national meet. It will mark a back-to-back showing for the senior at the outdoor NCAA championships who still has one more event yet to compete in at the regional this weekend.
Joining as the lone three Summit League athletes to compete in the event were Shewaye Johnson and Naja Weiler. Johnson entered the race ranked No. 41 but quickly put such a placing to shame as she bolted out to a time of 34:06.28 to finish 26
th overall. Weiler rounded out the competing Hawks with her 44
th-place finish overall after running a 36:23.38, improving her position from her original No. 48 ranking earlier in the week.
North Dakota State
North Dakota State sophomore sprinter Paige Renschler advanced to the national quarterfinals in the 100m and 200m on Thursday evening, headlining the performances of the Bison women’s track & field team at the NCAA West First Rounds hosted by Arkansas.
Renschler opened her night by clocking 11.50 in the 100m dash to earn an automatic qualifying spot to Saturday’s quarterfinals. She came back later that evening to run a 23.38 in the 200m, claiming a time qualifier into the top 24.
The Bison sophomore will run the 100m quarterfinals at 6:35 p.m. CT on Saturday, followed by the 200m at 7:50 p.m.
NDSU senior Alex Seagris finished 26
th in the javelin, throwing 152-7 (46.50m) She improved 15 places from her No. 41 pre-meet ranking.
Junior Anika Larson clocked 23.85 in the 200m dash to place 38
th.
Sydney Arndt placed 45
th in the NCAA West 100m hurdles with a time of 14.01
Adison Kapitzke took 46
th in the hammer throw and 48
th in the shot put.
South Dakota
Three South Dakota track and field student-athletes have claimed their spots at the NCAA Championships in a couple weeks after strong performances at the NCAA West First Rounds Thursday.
The first Coyote to punch a ticket was in the men's pole vault, where freshman Caelan Harland was one of the top performers on the day. Harland technically finished the competition in second place with a clearance of 17-11 ¼ (5.47m). In total, five athletes cleared that bar and two others passed it but were positioned high enough to advance.
The other two Coyotes heading to Eugene are women's pole vaulters Anna Willis and Marleen Mülla. The duo, each earning first team All-American honors during this indoor season, cleared 14-6 ¼ (4.43m) to advance to the NCAA meet. They were two of 10 athletes to clear that height during Thursday's competition and were seeded second and fifth in the NCAA entering the regionals this weekend.
Four other Coyote men competed in Thursday's pole vault. Beau Karst placed in a tie for 17
th at 17-1 ½ (5.22m). Dutch Neuweiler cleared the opening height of 16-7 ½ (5.07m) to place 27
th. Wyatt Stewart and Dylan Curtis didn't clear the opening height in rainy conditions.
Also in competition Thursday morning was Delaney Smith in the hammer throw, where she placed 20
th with a toss of 196-10 (60.00m).
South Dakota State
South Dakota State's Ellie Harris competed in the preliminary heats of the 200m Thursday at the NCAA West Regional.
Harris posted a time of 23.99, placing 41
st. On top of her West Regional debut, Harris claimed the 200m program record (23.39) and made the All-Summit League team in the 200m and 4x100m.
St. Thomas
The University of St. Thomas women’s track and field team saw four athletes compete at the NCAA West Preliminary’s for the first time in program history.
Olivia Keller opened the evening for the Tommies in the 400-meter hurdles. Entering the race ranked 47th in the West Region, the senior posted a personal-best time of 58.52 to finish 29th overall, improving 18 spots from her initial ranking.
Senior Alexis Pratt clocked 25.01 in the 200m dash to place 47
th.
Morgan Koppelman tied her personal best in the pole vault, clearing 13-4.25 (4.08m) to finish tied for 26th overall. Teammate Brooke Wisdom cleared 12-10.75 (3.93m) to place tied for 41st.
