Three more #SummitOTF athletes punched their ticket to Eugene

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –Kansas City’s Tory Lanham, North Dakota’s Louis-Lys Fanucchi, and Oral Robert’s Jordan Wenger highlight the third day of the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds for Summit League athletes.

Kansas City
In one of the final three events of day three at the NCAA West Preliminary Round, Lanham punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships in the 200 meter while clocking the eighth-fastest time (20.54) at the meet. The Roo junior will return to Eugene after earning second team all-American honors a season ago.

The Kansas City 4x100 relay ran a personal best time of 39.53 to finish 14th at the NCAA West Preliminary Round.

North Dakota
In the lone event for North Dakota on day three of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round, Louis-Lys Fanucchi made headlines as he punched his ticket to the national meet after a glimmering showing in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase on Friday evening.

The Frenchman seemingly understood the assignment right from the get-go as he blazed out to the front of the pack in the first heat of the event. His early domination helped propel his way to a third-place finish in the heat alongside a time of 8:33.56, which marked a brand new personal best and the fastest time in North Dakota program history. It also helped Fanucchi clinch the automatic bid to the NCAA Outdoor Championships as a top-three heat-finisher before placing seventh overall after two more heats of competitors.

His clocking serves as the third time he's competed in the event this season. Fanucchi's first performance of the year in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Stanford Invitational was what helped him initially qualify for the NCAA West Prelims after running a then-personal best of 8:42.15 to take first place.

And now—following his first-ever NCAA West Prelims appearance—the sophomore will soon take on his first ever NCAA Track and Field Championship meet.

North Dakota State
The North Dakota State men's track & field team wrapped up competition at the NCAA West First Rounds on Friday evening.

Bison junior Ethan Moe finished 21st in the national quarterfinals of the 1500m, clocking 3:48.13 in a tactical race.

Brady Goss placed 24th in the 3000m steeplechase, running 8:51.30.

Sophomore Reece Grosserode took 25th in the triple jump with a mark of 50-05.25 (15.37m). Adam Dugger placed 44th.

Moe, Goss and Dugger all set school records this season in their respective events.

Oral Roberts
Jordan Wenger punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the men's high jump. The Golden Eagle sophomore cleared 7-2.5 (2.20m) on his second attempt to finish tied for fourth. Teammate Woedem Vasmark-Voegborlo cleared 6-11.5 (2.12m) on his first attempt but couldn't get over 7-1.5 (2.17m) to stay alive in the competition ultimately placing 15th.

Abraham Chelangam did not finish his 5000m race.

South Dakota
South Dakota track and field concluded its time at the NCAA West First Rounds Friday as Jaden Damiano and Landon Olson competed in Fayetteville.

Olson started the day for the Yotes in the men’s high jump. He cleared the opening bar of 6-9 ½ (2.07m) on his second attempt, but was unable to get over the following height of 6-11 ½ (2.12m). Only half of the field was able to clear the second bar of the day.

On the track, Damiano competed for a second time this week, running the quarterfinals of the men’s 110-meter hurdles. After earning an auto qualifier spot to Friday’s round, Damiano ran 13.69 to place 17th Friday. The top 12 advanced to the NCAA Championships and the cut line was 13.49 seconds.

South Dakota returns to Vermillion with three qualifiers to the NCAA Championships in Eugene June 10-13. Caelan Harland advanced in the men’s pole vault and will go for his first all-American honor to cap his freshman season.

Anna Willis and Marleen Mülla advanced to the NCAA Championships in the women’s pole vault. Willis is looking for a third all-American honor, and second outdoor. She placed fourth outdoor last season and was third indoor this winter.

South Dakota State
Cody Larson finished his collegiate career in the steeplechase quarterfinals, where he finished 31st with a time of 8:55.36.

The discus duo of Ethan Fischer and Caymen Genheim, hit the ring for the discus throw. The top 12 punched tickets to Eugene, Oregon in the event, and Gebheim took 30th with a throw of 174-11 (53.31m), while Fischer threw 164-6 (50.14m) to finish 38th.
