Omaha claims first #SummitWSOC Championship title

OMAHA, Neb. – For the first time in program history, third-seeded Omaha captured the #SummitWSOC Championship in a penalty shootout over fourth-seeded Oral Roberts, 3-1. With the victory, the Mavericks earned the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
The teams played to a scoreless draw through 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of extra time before the Mavericks secured the victory in the shootout.

Omaha supplied the offensive pressure in the first half, forcing ORU goalkeeper Louisa Ramsauer to make four key saves, including three in the span of 12 minutes. Her fourth save of the half came in the 40th minute and was a critical one. Omaha forward Sophia Green's shot looked destined for the back of the net but Ramsauer made a leaping save to keep the ball out of the top right corner.

In the second half, it was Omaha goalkeeper Emma Konsmo's time to make an impact on the match. She totaled five or her six saves in the final 45 minutes of regulation, including a leaping save in the 73rd minute on a blast from ORU's Kennedy Langebartels.

Omaha had a decent look in the closing 10 minutes of regulation, but Emilie Erland was denied by Ramsauer, who made her fifth save in regulation.

After the two 10-minute overtime periods in which both teams tallied two shots, the Summit League Champion was decided by a shootout for the sixth time and first since 2019.

With the penalty kicks at 2-1 in favor of Omaha, Marissa Gohr gave the Mavericks a 3-1 edge as she sent her attempt past Ramsauer inside the left corner of the frame. The following ORU kick was shot wide by Gabrielle Abbey, sending the Mavericks to the NCAA Division I Tournament for the first time in program history.

The Mavericks will find out their NCAA Tournament matchup Monday at 2:30 p.m. CT when the NCAA Women's Soccer Selection Show will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
