South Dakota State captures seventh #SummitWSOC Championship title

BROOKINGS, S.D. – For the seventh time in program history, second-seeded South Dakota State captured the #SummitWSOC Championship with a 1-0 win against second-seeded Omaha. With the victory, the Jackrabbits earned the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
The teams played to a scoreless draw through the first half of play as Omaha notched three shots on goal compared to SDSU's one shot on goal. SDSU goalkeeper Jocelyn Tanner saved three of Omaha's six shot attempts in the first half.

In the second half, it was a back-and-forth defensive battle with winds increasing until SDSU freshman Ellie Gusman recorded the game-winning goal in the 67th minute of play to put the Jacks up 1-0.

SDSU's defense came through in the clutch in the final 23 minutes of action to close out the Summit League championship. The Jackrabbits also held the Mavericks without a shot through the entire second half.

The Jackrabbits will find out their NCAA Tournament matchup Monday at 3 p.m. CT when the NCAA Women's Soccer Selection Show will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
