Jackrabbits claim back-to-back tournament titles

FARGO, N.D. -- Third-seeded South Dakota State defeated fifth-seeded Oral Roberts 3-1 Sunday at Dacotah Field to claim their second straight Summit League Women's Soccer Championship title. The tournament title is the eighth for the Jackrabbits, which ties them with former member Oakland for the most in league history.

SDSU opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Hailee Christensen deflected a clearance attempt by ORU goalkeeper Alexa Riefer that found its way into the back of the net. The Jackrabbits took just 70 seconds to push their advantage to 2-0 when Katelyn Buelke scored her first of two goals in the title match.

The Golden Eagles would only get one shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes as a staunch SDSU defense allowed the Jacks to take that 2-0 lead into the break.

Buelke would quickly make it a 3-0 contest in the opening minutes of the second half when she cleaned up a misplayed cross in the box. The brace was the second of the season for the sophomore, who leads the Jacks with nine goals on the season.

ORU would get its first goal in the 63rd minute when graduate student Marlee Fray finished Alaina Trevino.

Fray's shot on goal was the only one SDSU would allow in the second half as the Jackrabbits held a 10-7 advantage in total shots.

The Jackrabbits will find out their postseason matchup Monday during the NCAA Selection Show that will be streamed live on NCAA.com at 3 p.m. CT.
