Denver, Kansas City headline 2025 #SummitMSOC awards

The Pioneers and Roos combined for five of six individual awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Regular season co-champions Denver and Kansas City combined for five of the six 2025 Summit League Men’s Soccer individual awards, which were announced Saturday by league officials along with the all-league and all-newcomer teams.

Denver senior Isaac Nehme garnered his third straight Goalkeeper of the Year accolade, becoming the first to achieve the trifecta since the award’s inception in 2012. Defender Trevor Wright was named Defensive Player of the Year – the fifth consecutive year a Pioneer has won that honor.

The duo anchored a Denver defense that posted shutouts in three of six Summit matches this season, leading the program to its ninth regular season title. Nehme, who is now tied for the Summit League record for all-time shutouts with 34, and Wright were joined by first-time individual honoree Kyle McGowan, who claimed the Offensive Player of the Year nod. He led all Summit forwards with four goals in conference play.

Kansas City’s Ryan Pore was named Coach of the Year for the second straight year and third time overall while freshman midfielder Bryce Outman was named the Newcomer of the Year becoming the second consecutive Roo to earn that distinction.

Pore and Outman helped the Roos capture the program’s first regular season title since 2008. Outman scored one goal and had three assists in conference play as KC will enter postseason play ranked nationally in the United Soccer Coaches poll (t25th) and in the Top Drawer Soccer poll (22nd).

Delaware’s Rich Monath racked up the final individual award after being named the Midfielder of the Year. He led the league with six goals in Summit play, including recording the lone hat trick in a 6-0 win over Omaha.

Denver led the way with four overall first-team selections as forward Bryce Willoughby joined McGowan, Nehme and Wright on that squad. Nehme’s first-team honor is his third straight, while Willoughby and Wright were second-team honorees in 2024.

Delaware and Kansas City each had three, while midfielder Matt Cence gave newcomer UMass a representative on the first team after leading all players with four assists in conference action.

Monath led a trio of Blue Hens on the first team as he was joined by forward Marius Stenner and defender Jan Schroeder. Outman was flanked on the first team by fellow Roos Jeremy Francou and Guille Munoz.

The Blue Hens, who boast the nation’s top-scoring offense with 48 total goals and a 3.0 gpg average, had a league-best four players on the second team. UD’s quartet of second teamers included forward Mikey Johnson, midfielder Freddy Jeffreys, defender Luke Chatten and goalkeeper JoJo Elliott, Jr.

Kansas City and St. Thomas, who set the program’s Division I record with seven overall wins in 2025, each landed three players on the second team.

The trio of Roos included defenders Joackim Betina and Bryson Gosch and forward Raphael Kistmann, who has five goals in his last five matches. The Tommie trio included midfielder Mathis Guffroy, defender Simon Klevberg and forward Yanis Lakhlifi. Denver midfielder Luke Schultz rounded out the all-league second team.

Six all-league selections also found their way onto the Summit League All-Newcomer Team. Those half dozen honorees included UD’s Elliott, Jr., and Jeffrey, UST’s Guffroy and Lakhfili along with KC’s Betina and Outman.

Joining those six on the all-newcomer team were Oral Roberts forward Emilio Cazares, the Denver duo of Erik Collins and Grant Lund, UMass forward JP Mbuthia, and another Tommie in Gabriel Verona. Lund and Mbuthia were among 11 selections to earn all-league honorable mention nods.

The 2025 Summit League Men’s Soccer Championship is set to begin Sunday, Nov. 9 with a pair of semifinal matches featuring No. 1 Denver vs. No. 4 Oral Roberts (1 p.m. MT) in the Mile High City and No. 2 Kansas City hosting No. 3 Delaware (5 p.m. CT) streaming live on the Summit League Network.
